Botox, Dysport, and Jeuveau
Neurotoxins | Botox®, Dysport®, and Jeuveau® are FDA approved injectable neuromodulators designed to temporarily smooth moderate to severe wrinkles. All three products originate from the same source bacterium — clostridium botulinum — and are synthesized as botulinum toxin type A for administering in minuscule amounts in cosmetic and medical settings. They work by temporarily paralyzing the targeted muscle areas on the face to relax and diminish the appearance of wrinkles, while maintaining a natural expression.

Whenever you laugh, frown, concentrate or squint into the sun, your facial muscles contract and your skin creases. As you get older your skin loses its elasticity and those creases deepen into lines that become permanently etched on your face. Frown lines between your eyes can become particularly noticeable at a relatively young age, making you look angry or worried even when you’re not.

Neuromodulators can smooth those lines and restore a natural, more youthful, less stressed expression to your face by temporarily immobilizing the muscles that cause these lines.

The most common treatment areas are “frown lines” on the forehead between the eyebrows (an area called the glabella), crow’s feet on the lateral sides of the eyes, and the forehead. Other areas becoming more popular with patients are the décolletage, and underarms (to treat excessive sweating).

Botox, Dysport and Jeuveau have been consistently proven safe and effective in clinical trials and worldwide application. They are often paired with dermal fillers and other aesthetic treatments for dramatic facial rejuvenation.

One ten-minute session and a few tiny injections is necessary to achieve noticeable improvement, which can last from three to six months. Results will vary from patient to patient. Some people find after several treatments that they can go longer between them, because they have “unlearned” the habit of frowning or squinting that caused the lines to develop in the first place!
